What's the best way to affix festive lighting to a car?

It’s my intention to spread lots of holiday cheer this month. What’s a good way to add festive accessories without damaging a car’s paint? I’ll probably do a lot less than what’s in the picture, just certain contours of the car.

Well, certain colours and spots on your car may not be legal, so check those first.

Put a wreath on the front and then add some lights to it.

Are you going to be driving or is this a stationary art display? If it’s just sitting I know there’s 3M outdoor no-damage light hooks. If they don’t damage house walls I doubt they would damage paint.

I found a good workaround in the form of battery-operated lights. Rather than using an inverter and hooking it up to the 12v port, I can switch them on and off at will. They’ll remain off on public roads, but I can switch them on for display applications :)

Best part is, I can mount the battery packs at the top of the windshield. Overhead switches!

Should I do the neon under-body lighting as well?

I’m going to set them up such that I can switch them on and off from the driver’s seat. They’ll be independent of the car’s electrical systems so I can drive on public roads without upsetting the police, but still be maximally festive in display applications.

The 3M hooks might work if placed at the right angles. Maybe they have other products too.

Test some 3M command adhesive in an inconspicuous place.

Rivets. Then to keep them from sliding, coat them in copious amounts of spray-on clearcoat.
